Meet Papa Jack and Nana Diane, the sweet grandparents of the story. They live in a small town—the very town where they went to school, dated, and got married. They still cherish their ’80s memories, but their grandchildren matter even more.

Meet Eileen, the narrator of this story-filled day. She’s the youngest and sometimes has trouble keeping up with the other two kids, so you may find them yelling, “Come on, Eileen!” She wants to travel the world one day, but for now, she’ll embrace a special treasure hunt through her grandparents’ small town.

Meet Mickey, the 9-year-old grandson. He loves to dress well and you’ll hear people telling him he looks fine on any given day. Two of his favorite activities are picking out candy at Mr. McGee’s General Store and rolling his eyes when someone tells the same story one too many times. He plans to own a sweet shop when he’s grown.

This is Eddie, the oldest grandchild. At 14, he’s already a natural leader and always watches out for Mickey and Eileen. His favorite colors are red, black, and white, and he plays football at school. Eddie enjoys a challenge and solving mysteries and plans to be a writer after he graduates. Like his famous namesake, he’s got a flair for creativity, but with a pen instead of a guitar.
